Edge II Jet Black Sleeve

This is the third case I've bought in this line. The first two were the Edge I for 13" Macs, the second case was only purchased after the cat made a rather poor choice of what might be his litter box... twice (i.e. the first case was not lost due to normal breakage/wear and tear). The Edge II case was for my Macbook Pro Unibody and works perfectly for my expectations. It's got solid and stiff corners and padding all around the edges to absorb shock from a fall.

They improved every aspect of the case that could have used improving from the previous Edge. The shoulder strap clasps are still metal, yet much less likely to snap open; they definitely require a thumb and forefinger to unhook this time around.

The single zipper pocket has been moved from inside the case to the outside -- much easier to access and has slightly more room. While they claim the pocket will fit an AC adapter, it will not fit (or just barely) the MBP adapter if you are using the long cord, and even then it feels like you are straining on the capacity. This is really my only complaint, but I also realize you are trading some of the bulk/capacity of the case for a sleek and slim briefcase-like design.

The side "stash a folder" pocket is still there and still handy for tossing in random papers as you might need to.

One of the marketing gimmicks attached to this case is that you do not need to pull the case out when going through airport security, but TSA hasn't gotten the memo. I've yet to make it through security without have to rescan the case. It's less hassle just to remove the computer from case the first time through.

You can position the laptop so you can open the case and use the laptop while still in the case, but it's a little awkward if you have anything in the front pocket or need to do this for prolonged periods. It's however very handy to zip open, do some quick note taking or web look-ups, and then zip it up again.

Lastly, the case really just feels well-crafted and excellently designed. Almost everyone who's taken a second look has commented "wow, nice case."

I bought a second one of these splendid cases for a second MacBook in the family. This is a very durable, slim and heavily armored case that creates a tight custom fit for the MacBook. The case opens up sort of like a book and when laying flat you press the laptop into a VERY tight cutout. Since it would be hard to even pull out the laptop with such a tight fit, the Brenthaven Edge I has a nylon pull strap so that you can pull up and pop the laptop up and out of the case's power grip. The very high density padding is approximately 1-1.5 inches all around the perimeter, and is probably .5 inch on the broad faces on each side of the case, backed up by what is probably a plastic stiffening sheet. I would suspect that you could drop a MacBook in this carrying case and the computer would not suffer a cracked housing (hard to say how durable the guts of the computer might turn out to be after a drop). The inside zippered pocket is broad and deep but too tight and shallow to be of much use except for very flat materials, and the tight outside pocket closes with only one velcro patch, no flip lid, so items could fall out. You can barely get the MacBook cord into this outside pocket. The shoulder strap though durable, is a bit narrow at the padded part that actually rests on the shoulder, but this should make little difference because it only needs to spread the burden of a 4-5 pound load. In terms of computer protection I would rate this as the best I have seen currently on the market. No flimsy, thin foam cut to loosely fit around the perimeter of your laptop. This laptop case creates a perfect hug (i.e. death grip) for a 13.3 MacBook. This is no "sleeve." This case has corners that appear to be metal reinforced and will not give even with a full force effort to compress them. If you are in the market for a case that provides excellent protection and has a minimalist profile this would be an excellent choice. IF you need to store lots of folders and many accessories like a USB hub, cell phone, glasses, PDA, calculator, etc. you'll be vastly short on space.

This bag is perfect for my Macbook, it fits perfectly in the bag and it feels safe in the bag.
