When Henry Ford said that his customers could order the Model T Ford in any color "as long as it was black", he could have been taking his cue from Brenthaven.
Based in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, Brenthaven specializes in producing shoulder bags and backpacks for iBooks and PowerBooks.
However, it only produces its Apple Pro range in black. If you want a bag in any other color you'd better look at the offerings of Crumpler or Waterfield.
However, if black isn't a turnoff for you, you're in for a treat. The Pro 12/15 fits both iBooks and PowerBooks up to 15 inches. The center compartment uses Brenthaven's CORE protection system: a pair of padded bow-shaped supports that snuggle and cradle a notebook perfectly. The supports are bowed with just enough spring to grip the iBook or PowerBook, and hold it in the Pro 12/15's padded womb-like enclosure.
The new bag features a host of zippered pockets that make it the perfect notebook carrier for anyone going on an extended journey. There are pockets for cables, writing instruments, and passports... even pockets for your documents and your copy of MacFormat. It's like Doctor Who's Tardis inside, with so much space in what looks like a fairly compact shoulder bag from the outside.
The Pro 12/15 is constructed from military-grade Ballistic Nylon, a material that is virtually indestructible. Offset D-rings on the sholder pad mean that the whole bag sits nicely on the wearer's hip, rather than pulling at the shoulder. A wide padded shoulder strap spreads the load and makes light work of lugging round a laptop.
The last feature we should mention is the strap at the rear of the bag that enables you to place the Pro 12/15 over the handle of a wheelie case. It's just another little well-thought-out feature that sets Brenthaven apart from the other Mac bag manufacturers. Superb.
